The Shriven (LuxJam 01 Game Submission)

The Shriven

Stuck in purgatory as one of the shriven, you must platform, puzzle solve, and fight your way out.  As a shriven, you have the ability to switch between light & shadow forms, each with its own weapon style that interacts with the beasties here in different ways, depending on their alignment with the light or shadow.

Soul Energy: 

As you travel through purgatory and defeat its guardians, you will collect soul energy from them at the moment of their demise.  You can then infuse this energy into the many Soul Pillars found around the area to unlock inaccessible passages, provided you infuse the right pillars, with the right type of energy, some require light, and some require shadow.   

Giving it Straight:

Now that, that is taken care of... we did not get quite as far with it as we had hoped, so since there is a very noticeable lack of the tutorial we wanted to include, here are the controls and a bit of need to know.

Short Gameplay Example: 

Controls:

• Movement: WASD
• Jump: Spacebar
•  Climb/Mantle: Spacebar while staring at a wall)
• Alt: Crouch (rolls if double tapped)
• Q: Switches you between your light and shadow forms.  Take note, as most of the stuff you will run into revolves around this... that's your hint ;)
• LMB: Attacks with the melee weapon of your current form. (light or shadow)
• E: Infuse Soul Energy into the Soul Pillars

You will notice a lot of stuff that we didn't get to finish, things not working properly, or flat out missing etc.   We would apologize but... we had 48 hours and we had a blast and that's what it's really all about!  We do however, hope that you might find at least a bit of fun, running around, exploring and fighting your way through our purgatory, and seeing if you are clever enough to figure out how to play the game since we did not have time to finish the tutorial!  :D

OK, we will actually give you one more hint since it is so crucial to overcoming some of the gigantic pitfalls you will come across.  

These are "Soul Pillars"

Be on the lookout for them as you explore, as they play a very noticeable part in your advancement!
